LESSON 14.
Language Focus (can, should, may, must, will)
The students can borrow the books from the library.
They should have a library card.
They may not speak loudly in the library.
They must pay Rp.500 for each book that is returned overdue.
‘Can’ expresses permission or possibility.
We can do these exercises next week.
‘Can’ expresses ability or capacity to do something.
She can cook very well.
‘Should’ expresses obligation or advisability.
She should go to bed earlier.
‘Must’ expresses obligation.
The negative form ‘needn’t’ and ‘mustn’t’ expresses prohibition.
You mustn’t go out after eight o’clock.
‘Will’ expresses future time or request.
He will come to your party.
I will be there.
